Wanting to look put-together is normal, but beauty rules often change and exclude real people. A healthier approach combines comfort, self-expression, hygiene, and character—without treating your face or body as a project that must be corrected.

Dress for your real day

Think about weather, activities, school expectations, and comfort. A reliable outfit can be more useful than a trend. Clothes should not need to be a certain size to “earn” wearing them. If someone polices your body or outfit, seek support and remember that harassment is the harasser’s responsibility.

Use grooming as care

A manageable routine might include bathing as needed, dental care, clean clothing, and hair care suited to you. Cosmetics, shaving, and styling are personal choices. Learn safe techniques from a caregiver or reputable professional, do not share tools that can spread infection, and stop products that hurt.

Strengthen your inner voice

Replace “I look terrible” with a neutral statement such as “I’m having a hard body-image day.” Name three things your body helps you do. Spend time developing a skill or helping someone; competence and connection can interrupt the habit of constant comparison.

Choose respectful relationships

Friends and partners should not rank your looks, demand wardrobe changes, pressure you for pictures, or make affection conditional. State boundaries directly and honor theirs. A caring person can accept disagreement and a no without punishment, gossip, repeated requests, or threats.

Ask for backup

Talk to a trusted adult if appearance worries affect meals, exercise, sleep, spending, or school attendance. Report bullying through school channels and keep records when safe. Professional support can help with persistent anxiety or body-image distress. You do not have to wait until a problem feels “serious enough” to deserve care.
